Are you addicted to Guitar Hero like I am? You’ve been playing

so much you see those red, green, and blue notes in your

sleep? Well prepare yourself because this news will help you

feed your need! For those of you that missed the boat, Guitar

Hero is video game phenomenom where user play along with

classic and new rock songs with a guitar shaped controller.

There are great bands on the game from legends like Metallica,

to Rage Against the machine, and now, you’ll be able to play

Aerosmith’s entire catalog! Activision announced last week

that this June they will unveil the latest game in the GUitar

Hero series, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. A game exclusively

dedicated to the iconic band that has sold over 100 million

albums worldwide. Players will begin a lead guitarist Joe

Perry and will be able to unlock other members, of course

Steven Tyler is on lead vocals. There are some great gigs and

special guests artists on the game, (I’m keeping my fingers

crossed for RUN DMC!) and before the release, you’ll be able

to download their first single “Dream On” for free from the

XBox live store or on your PS3.

Indie record label TVT Records, home to Smash single creator

Lil Jon and the Ying Yang twins is planning to file for

bankruptcy. The company will continue to operate but will have

major staff cutbacks as well as releasing some artists from

their contracts to become free agents. The financial woes stem

from ligitation with Def Jam Records and Slip-N-Slide over

projects by Pitbull and Ja Rule, that drained the label of

millions of dollars.

Concert news: The beautiful and talented Miss Alicia Keys is

going on tour! you all knew it was coming! And she’s not going

alone of course, a new powerhouse vocalist is joining her, the

most recent American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks! Did y’all

catch her performance at the super bowl? amazing! The tour

will support keys new albulm “As I am” and Spark’s new ablum

as well as her latest single “No Air” featuring Chris Brown.

The two ladies hit the road on April 19th in Virigina.

God, I couldn’t wait to unlock this song so I recorded this when I made a 2 song setlist XD. This song is honestly one of my most favorite songs ever. I was thrilled and incredibly excited to hear that it made it into Rock Band.

I tried to sing it as well as I could (well, as well as Rock Band 2 vocals would allow me too haha) and I’m very proud of the way it turned out. =)

After many hours of waiting, we finally were ready to play Rockband 2. A bit annoying that you have to make brand new characters… but I suppose it’s so that people all start at the same point.

After two terrible Eye of the Tiger performances, mainly due to calibration issues… we finally found that the LCD 2 settings worked a charm. (Audio 5, Video 50 I believe… but don’t quote me. It’s in the manual)

For the record, Rock Band isn’t new to us… it’s been our party game for awhile now. Still, it’s been months since our last session. We are desperately out of practice.

Jay is our lead guitarist, his son Alex is the bass, his other son Josh on drums, and yours truly singing… mainly because I’m the only one who seems able to. Even then, I’m definitely not a great one… just passable unless of course it’s a song I love.

This is not really one of those songs. While I listen to the song occasionally, it’s never been one I sing along to in the car. I apologize if your ears bleed… heh… I did get 100% on it though.

Hopefully tonight I’ll capture something a bit better… such as Float On or Eye of the Tiger… or maybe even AFI or Foo Fighters if we unlock them. (And maybe find the real video camera instead of my crappy Nikon)

Talk about near chokes! This was about the 6th attempt of the night. I was getting really tired and frustrated from screwing it up half way through every time. But I was figuring out which SP paths would get me through it. Then, the ONE TIME I survive the solo sections, back into the whole part from the beginning that I’ve pretty much got MASTERED, I’m sitting there choking! Rock meter taking a huge dive and fast!

In an instant I got so mad at myself and forced myself to become a machine and concentrate on the sticking pattern to get through it. If I would’ve failed at that point I would’ve killed myself, or at least cut an arm off or something. Just kidding, but I would’ve been BEYOND mad. Somewhere in a parallel universe I failed that song and that really sucks for that other me. But I hope to be able to play this at the 5-star level someday with more practice, so this first win will be a distant memory.

You can see the “Achievement Unlocked” at the end. Gotta love achievements. I haven’t been this geeked since beating Jordan.

Oh, and I got 4 stars! But barely.

Also, Windows Movie Maker sucks and the audio goes out of sync with the video mid way through. Sorry about that.

Q: How does it work?
A: Everything is explained in detail here: http://egyokeo.com/midihero

Q: How do you do 3-note chords?
A: All “two adjacent note” power chords are mapped to the top 4 pads, so with two sticks I can play any 3-note chord except GYO. But I can get that now with one stick in left hand and two fingers on right hand.

Q: How do you do whammy and star power?
A: I use a bass drum pedal on my right foot to activate star power, and a hi-hat pedal on my left foot to control whammy depth.

Q: How do you hold notes?
A: My MIDI Hero software has an auto-hold feature for every note hit because it’s more natural for a drummer to play that way. It’s not a good feeling to mash sticks into drum pads to hold notes.

Q: How do you hit all the fast note streams and you’re barely moving?
A: Double stroke drum rolls. Hands move at 1/2 speed, each stick bounces twice.

Q: Why do the notes “hit” so late?
A: I use a 145ms setting for the in-game HTDV Lag Calibration feature to counter the “controller lag” I have with my setup. I use it to make the sweet spot of the notes match the sound of the music, not when the notes cross the row of circles. That way, I play what I hear, but I have to read ahead for the notes to play.

Q: Are you using the “easy expert” cheat?
A: Nope. I wouldn’t have gotten the achievement at the end if I were using a cheat. Also, listen to the “tap” sounds the drums make. They match in-time to the music and the visible rhythm of the notes on-screen. There’s no need for a bigger “window” around each note in order to hit them. The lag setting is what makes it look like I’m hitting things late.

UPDATE: The latest GH3 patch over Xbox Live has added separate audio and video lag calibration. This will solve this and nobody will ask about it anymore because it properly adjusts the audio to account for my controller lag (145ms) and the video lag is near 0ms so the notes will “burst into flames” when the hit the row of circles instead of off-screen like they do in my previous videos.

Q: How much does this cost?
A: The drumKat is a pro-quality MIDI drum pad set. These days, they run about $1k, but I had my set from years ago. I also use a PC to run my custom home-brew MIDI Hero software to interpret the drum events. Then the “XIM” and “XFPS” add another $100+. This is not made for the masses. This is a one-of-a-kind setup.

Q: Do you play real drums? Are you in a band?
A: Yes, I’ve been playing drums since 1986. I have been in various bands from Jazz to Ska over the years. Right now I’m in the Detroit-based ska band The Exceptions.

Q: Are you getting Rock Band?
A: UPDATE: I have it now, but I can’t stand the drum controller. So I played it enough to beat career on Expert (failed one song once, in the middle tier somewhere Pretty soon I hope to have my mod working with it and I’ll probably get back into it then.

There are three versions of Remixes 81–84. The main version has 2 CDs. The limited edition version has the same two CDs, plus a bonus CD with mostly new remixes. There’s also a one-CD release with selections from all three discs.

The booklet, found in all three versions, features an essay by Paul Morley. A special “Secret Website” (now offline) could be unlocked with the CDs.

During the promotion of the limited three-CD edition of Remixes 81–84, the above mentioned site was launched for fans who bought the bundle which featured exclusive goodies. Also, there was a special digital download-only bundle entitled Remixes 81–84: Rare Tracks, which is now offline for all songs except one listed below, accompanied with official artwork (though still available for download) so users who bought the entire bundle could burn the tracks to a 99min CD-R (the whole album lasts 88:32) and print the artwork as well if they desired to so they could make a pressed CD-like version. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Collaboration Interview. Explore the collaboration between Aerosmith and Neversoft with Sr. Producer Chris Parise. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is an upcoming rhythm game being developed by Neversoft and distributed by Activision. It is the fifth entry and second spin-off in the Guitar Hero franchise. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith features the likenesses and music of the rock band Aerosmith, as well as music from bands that have toured with or influenced Aerosmith. Like all Guitar Hero titles, the game will allow players to use a guitar-shaped peripheral to simulate the playing of rock music. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is a stand-alone game incorporating many of the features of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The game is expected to be released in North America on June 29, 2008 and two days earlier in Europe. It is also expected to be released in Australia on August 6.

Storyline:
A departure from other games in this franchise, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will follow the career of Aerosmith, by playing significant songs in their catalog in a ‘rough chronological fashion’. The gameplay will follow the band through various periods in its history, spanning from its first show at Mendon Nipmuc Regional High School in 1970 to the 2001 Super Bowl XXXV halftime show. The player will start as Joe Perry, and will eventually be able to unlock Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton. The game will not focus on internal strife and stress within the band. Guitarist Joe Perry stated that the game would focus on the positive aspects of Aerosmith’s history. Perry has stated that “Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us. We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.” Even though the player will be able to play as Aerosmith, they will start the setlists as the original band from Guitar Hero III with a rhythm character added as the opening act. After the player has played a song with the characters from Guitar Hero III, Aerosmith will make a dramatic entrance and the player will start the journey through Aerosmith’s career.

Heh, what a difference the master track makes. The chorus is dumbed down from GH2, and the solo is significantly easier to boot. Still a blast to play, I was just activating my Overdrive in some places expecting to find a wall of chords that apparently are now charted to bass. Whoops.
